Good Samaritan Skills Centre

AWU has been fortunate enough to reinstate an old project for a limited period of time. The Good Samaritan Skills Centre had been for the purpose of training local girls and boys in vocational skills. Eventually it was used to train girls in hairdressing and tailoring but then funding ran out. We now have the money to restart for approximately 3 years.

The first cohort of students have graduated and the new term began in October.

The team also converted part of the building as living accommodation for 5 of the young disadvantaged women from Customs (see street boys page). The first 5 have completed their training and graduated and we have been able to give these girls starter kits and the first 3 months rent to begin a business that hopefully will take them off the streets and give them hope. A further 5 women from Customs began training this October. This opportunity was provided by a generous donor whose heart is with these girls.

There is also a tree nursery at the centre which you can see in the foreground of the above photo.
